Estelle Avenue

Kentfield, CA

On a steep, wooded site in Kentfield we were asked to expand and refine an exceptional mid-century post and beam house.

To enhance the outdoor experience of the property, the hillside was terraced and a new swimming pool was placed below the house, which created a spacious and level clearing in the woods, perfect for hosting large family gatherings.

A customized system of sliding glass doors glides seamlessly in front of existing wood posts, stacking neatly over an exterior wall. When opened, the space transforms into a pavilion within the forest, and allows the living and dining areas to extend onto a large deck overlooking the pool.

Large windows and doors connect the house to its surroundings, blending indoor and outdoor spaces.

The existing post and beam structure was repeated in the new primary bedroom wing, which gracefully cantilevers over a board-formed concrete wall, integrating with new retaining walls in the landscape.
