Dipsea Road II

LSAO transformed a 1990s ranch house located between a tidal estuary and a man-made lagoon in the Seadrift community of Stinson Beach.

The original footprint of the house was preserved, but the structure was reimagined as a contemporary coastal home. The deteriorated exterior siding was replaced with unsealed cedar, which will eventually weather to a silvery grey.

To maximize the extraordinary views and create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, we added large openings on both the estuary and lagoon sides of the house.

On the estuary side, large openings frame captivating views to the Bolinas Ridge. Inside, interior walls were removed to create an open airy layout. The expansive glass entryway offers a tantalizing glimpse of the water, while strategically positioned skylights flood the interior with natural light.

On the lagoon side, board-formed concrete planters support a series of cascading decks that lead gently down to a boat dock at the water's edge. A spacious deck adjacent to the lagoon provides ample room for outdoor living and family activities.
